Written Feedback

A 3-5 page in-depth written review of your work. We will break the report down into clear sections. We will explore the areas of the work that are exceptional as well as the areas in which there is room for improvement.

Key areas we will study may include:

  •  Plot - is the plot clear/cleverly constructed/effectively communicated to the reader? Are there any glaring plot holes we pick up on? Is it accidentally an almost exact replica of the Psycho manuscript?

  • Characters - are the characters strong, are they emotionally engaging? Do we care what happens to them? Do any accidentally fall into stereotypes in a fashion that is not an intentional writing/style choice? Are their dynamics strong?

  • Dialogue - is awkward speech damaging your story?

  • Pace - snail or speed machine?

  • Writing style - is your use of language and tone effective?

  • Basic grammar/formatting check - an overview of any errors that pop up in your writing (this will not be a breakdown of individual errors, but a summary of areas for improvement or a direction as to what is letting your writing down - for full proofreading and editing, please check the proofreading package further down this page).

Of course, the above is just an example - each review is entirely individual, so your feedback may vary depending on the needs of your work!

PRICING:

We charge £0.0075 per word for this service (so if your story is 10,000 words, a 3-5 page review would cost a total of £75.00).

DISCLAIMER: If you pay for our review service and adjust your work in line with the review, this does not guarantee that your work will be published by Snake Bite Books. None of our services are run on a to-be-published basis, and if you submit your work following a review, we will treat it as we would any other submission. Equally purchasing a review does not count as submitting your work to us for consideration for publication. Reviews are also not a guarantee your work will be published by any other company, although we hope to help!

Copy Editing

We will read your work in its entirety and send you back a copy with errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling highlighted. Any areas where the wording is clunky, you have used a repetitive word, the sentence structure is problematic and so on will also be highlighted and the reasoning for the highlight given.

This is a comprehensive, copy editing service only - you will receive no written feedback outside of small comments, and no feedback on your content, characters, or plot.

The style guide for US English will be the Chicago Manual.

The style guide for UK English will be New Hart’s.

Please specify in your enquiry whether your work is in UK or US English.

PRICING:

We charge £0.006 per word for this service (so if your story is 10,000 words, the total cost would be £60.00).

To request our copy editing services, please hit the button below and send us a brief description of the work, including the word count! We will respond within two working days to get started on your manuscript.

"Editing is as much of an art as writing... having that objective eye to look over something you've written with a lot of heart can help you find room for improvement that you personally might not see or hear in your work, and really elevate it to the next level. As a writer, I struggled with the editing process - having someone red-pen a section you wrote from the soul because it slows your pace is heartbreaking! A good editor should be able to understand your voice and your passion, see the story as a whole, and help shape your writing into a final package. After years, I came to understand it is not about having someone highlight your errors as much as it is about having your work streamlined so that your story is told as effectively and beautifully as possible."
